The K-9 Kondo is the best and most durable, economical and long-lasting doghouse available. You can find the proof in the kennels of some of today’s most respected sportsmen, police departments, and animal shelters. Research shows that dogs prefer to sleep in shallow, curved holes. The curved, natural shape of the interior surface of the K-9 Kondo effectively satisfies this natural “nesting” preference.

NOTICE ON BARRELS
We regret that we can no longer provide barrels with our K-9 Kondo doghouse kits. The cost of shipping has become very expensive, with some barrels costing as much as $100 to ship to some locations. Good quality used 55-gallon plastic barrels cans be routinely obtained from local car wash businesses, bottling plants, or found in the Yellow Pages under “Drums & Barrels.” Barrels with a minimum bottom diameter of 21 inches are required and can have a maximum diameter of up to 24 inches for the K-9 Kondo doghouse kit. Barrels smaller than 55 gallons or of steel construction will not work with the K-9 Kondo kit. A little bit of searching will save you a lot of money while still providing your dog with a comfortable, yet indestructible animal shelter.

I love the concept of the barrels, and in decent weather, I love everything about the Kondos. However, I have found that the space between the floor of the barrel and the bottom of the door is so small that very little bedding can be used and still have the door really be functional. More than an inch or so of hay/straw interferes with it being pushed in, and if the dog does force its way through, the door doesn't close normally. I'm not sure what can be done to change that, honestly. But it leaves me very disappointed. I wish we had just ordered more Dens. Honestly, the barrel design is no more useful than a cheap house (or less so) if the dog can't get in it or the door is stuck open.

I think you will find that a cheap house will not be nearly as durable as a K-9 Kondo nor will they provide a drier more comfortable interior. The barrier or opening lip of the door adapter plate can not be made taller and have a door that is large enough for most dogs. A door mat placed over a piece of insulation such as Reflextex is a very good alternative to loose bedding.
We offer the Dog Dens for dog owners who want an insulated unit with a deeper barrier to maintain loose bedding. The customer has to ultimately decide which one of our products suits their needs the best.

We have 40 kennels and many of our old style boxes were getting pretty rough. We purchased 6 units to try them out and have purchased 6 more to fill our needs for now. I like how they work, clean up and look.

So far so good!! Great concept I would like to know how they use to insulate this product. I have a friend who said the K-9 Kondo use to have an insulation option. This winter will be the real test. Would like door bottom to be a little taller so straw and cedar didn't get pulled out when dog came out. Over all this is a good product, There was a few bolts, screws, washers and nuts missing when I counted before putting it together. I have had some issues with the rubber bushings. I bought the extra pack and glad I did. I also apply the silicone spray to them weekly. Once this house is sealed around the door with silicone and the vent is installed it provides a dry mostly draft free home. Just make sure to put plenty of drain holes in the bottom of it.

I would have given this package 5 stars but there was one difficult issue. The kit was complete and organized. Everything went together well until I tried to install the back brackets for the legs. Trying to hold the screw with a screwdriver and reaching around the outside of a 55 gallon barrel to tighten the nut was not possible. If you have 2 people to install the brackets it works fine.

Our three German Shorthair dogs have a good life in a large covered kennel on 3/4 acre fenced.
With a new kennel, we purchased heavy plastic houses, one for each dog; however, Sassy dog began chewing on these as she had all of the previous ones we had tried. Then Ruger and Gunner, copying Sassy, began the same habit. The all-plastic houses virtually disappeared.
With K-9 Condo, So far, the dogs are happy and the barrels are safe. (Our dogs really do get plenty to eat!)
