The K-9 Kondo is the best and most durable, economical and long-lasting doghouse available. You can find the proof in the kennels of some of today’s most respected sportsmen, police departments, and animal shelters. Research shows that dogs prefer to sleep in shallow, curved holes. The curved, natural shape of the interior surface of the K-9 Kondo effectively satisfies this natural “nesting” preference.

NOTICE ON BARRELS
We regret that we can no longer provide barrels with our K-9 Kondo doghouse kits. The cost of shipping has become very expensive, with some barrels costing as much as $100 to ship to some locations. Good quality used 55-gallon plastic barrels cans be routinely obtained from local car wash businesses, bottling plants, or found in the Yellow Pages under “Drums & Barrels.” Barrels with a minimum bottom diameter of 21 inches are required and can have a maximum diameter of up to 24 inches for the K-9 Kondo doghouse kit. Barrels smaller than 55 gallons or of steel construction will not work with the K-9 Kondo kit. A little bit of searching will save you a lot of money while still providing your dog with a comfortable, yet indestructible animal shelter.

WeE live in snow country and are very happy with this unit. We have had our first one over 20 yrs and it is still in good shape. The biggest advantage is the metal door that dogs cant chew and they don't seem to chew anything else. The biggest disadvantage is all the nuts and bolts have to be assembled one at a time. Thank goodness for battery operated screwdrivers. We lined ours with bubble wrap and then a layer of heavy plastic so we needed to buy longer bolts to hold the lining, but found that a rivit gun made it faster. I thought the directions were fine. Barrels that used to be free are now more expensive. Overall we are very happy with these and will probably order a couple more.

This was an easy product to put together. My chesapeake bay retreiver had no problem getting used to it. The only thing that needs to be included in the kit is caulking and a rubber mat for inside. My dog does a sideways flip when she runs to get inside. The plastic barrels are very slick inside. Get a rubber hoarse mat. It will keep your dog from doing a flip, keep them insulated from the plastic and is easy to wash off. Great design and ok price.

Why write another review when you apparently completely ignored my first review. Guess you only post 5 star reviews. Now I'm not surprised the K9 Condo I got was sub par. You probably wrote your own 5 star reviews anyway.

I just finished building my K-9 Kondo so I don't yet know if the dog will like it or not. I have a feeling the swinging door is going to be a challenge for him to get used to. It might have to stay open until it gets cold and he needs a warm place to sleep.
Cost was pretty good. I found one advertised on-line for a little better price with free shipping but I live in Nebraska and decided to buy directly from the company for a few more dollars and keep the money in the State.
**********K-9 Kondo Reply/ The dealers that offer free shipping include the shipping cost in the overall price then advertise the product with free shipping. One dealer that I know of charges $5.00 less overall than our price with shipping. However, we ship the same day orders are placed and most dealers take a couple of days for the order to reach us.**************
Assembly of the K-9 Kondo was not difficult. The directions were not very good but it was easy to figure out where everything goes.
**********K-9 Kondo/ I am sorry that you felt the instructions were poor. We have been using them for 23 years and they have worked for our customers very well.**********
The holes where the legs attach to the metal brackets did not match up and had to be re-drilled. **********K-9 Kondo reply/ The plastic feet does expand and contract slightly in relation to temperature. I checked more than a dozen parts at random and none required re-drilling. The holes do match. **********
If you pull the door up into the open position, there is not enough room for it to freely swing closed and the door gets stuck in the open position. If the dog does eventually use the door, it is likely going to get stuck in the open position which will defeat the purpose of having the door to contain his body heat.
**********K-9 Kondo/ You do not have the locking pin in the top position in the rain shield. The holes are there for the locking pin to rest in and prevent the pin from becoming misplaced. When in the top position it prevents the door from lifting to the point where the door sticks open.**********
I already had a blue barrel and some plywood so I thought I had everything I would need to put the K-9 Kondo together. There were not enough nuts and bolts included so a trip to the hardware store will be required. This will only cost a couple of dollars but since I live in the middle of no where, it will require a 40 mile trip.
**********K-9 Kondo/ I am sorry if your kit did not contain all of the fasteners. They are supposed to be weighed after packed to prevent shortage. We have an 800 number and I answer it at night and on weekends. I would have provided anything that you were short if you had called. I can't take care of a problem if I am told about it after the fact.**********
Overall, I think the K-9 Kondo is average at best. I think it will be durable but the plastic dog house I paid $25.00 for has been durable too. I still need buy some more nuts and bolts and finish putting it together and figure out how to keep the door from sticking in the open position though. I don't think I'd recommend it to a friend.

When we lived in Idaho Falls our dogs were outside all day during the day. The first year we were in Idaho Falls we went 3 weeks where the temp never got above 0 and the coldest was -30 and the dogs never had any issues with staying warm. Just fill the the barrel up to the bottom of the door and they will stay warm the entire time. I would without a doubt recomend this style of a dog house. As I expand my kennels there is only one option for housing the dogs. I would also recomend getting the top platform, I know my dogs love to lay on it when sun bathing. Thank you for the great product, I wish more companies across the board offered as good of a product as you do.
